The other day when scrolling through my Facebook page, I came across an article written by some bro about how much he (and apparently the rest of the male society) hate high-waisted shorts. The article went on and on about how the cutoffs makes girls’ butts look flat, yadda yadda yadda. What this guy doesn’t realize is no one really gives a shit whether or not you like them, ’cause we’re going to wear them anyways. Contrary to their belief, we don’t dress to impress anyone but ourselves. On that note, I decided to ask some male’s about their least favorite style trends that women seem to love. The answers were hilarious and shocking. I honestly never knew men paid so much attention to the way women dress.
- False nails, lashes, hair, etc. – I can’t really blame guys here, it’s kind of weird and creepy when you find out more than half of some girls’ body parts aren’t real, it’s even more creepy if you see them laying around. I’m not going to lie, I’m a huge fan of false lashes, but I can totally see how they would creep guys out. I mean have you really looked at a set after a night out? They look like a shriveled up caterpillar
- Red Lips – The classic red lip blew up a couple of years ago, and every girl was sporting them. I mean why wouldn’t we? Red lips make your teeth look whiter and allow you to ease up on the make up while still looking done up (you know, Taylor Swift style). Apparently most men hate this look and claim that it makes women look “too pale”. Well all I have to say to you is that a classic never goes out of style, so the red lip is here to stay.
- Heels – Mostly heels that are too tall and the inappropriate use of heels on campus. And I gotta say I agree with this one. If you can’t walk in your heels, then it doesn’t matter if they complete the outfit, because no one will be paying attention to your outfit, they’ll be paying attention to the awkward way you’re teetering down the street. If you insist on wearing heels that are too tall, make sure you’re going to a mostly seated event.
- Bags – While we’re still on the topic of school, ladies there is no reason to carry a purse-like bag to school with all your books in it. We all know it’s heavy and awkward to carry, you will not be considered any less of a stylish woman for wearing a backpack, plus your arm won’t fall off which is always a plus. On another note, purses that are too big. The Olsen twin-inspired trend has been over for quite some time now. We don’t need a bag big enough to carry every damn thing we own, “just in case”.
- High-waisted pants – I know we already mentioned these, but they seem to be very popular in the male community for all the wrong reasons. I keep hearing that only women of a certain weight can pull them off. Most women know what looks good on their body and what doesn’t. If a woman chooses to wear high-waisted pants or shorts, it means she feels so confident wearing them that she’s going to rock them without giving a shit what any guy says. I like this trend so I’m going to defend it to no end.
- Low-waisted pants – all the way on the other end of the spectrum is the low-waisted pants that came into style in the early 00s. Let’s be serious, this look was not flattering and I remember many girls getting into trouble at school for having their underwear sticking out. What’s even worse is low-waisted pants with cropped tops – unless you’re J.Lo, she can do anything she wants. For everyone else, it’s not cute, it never was, and it never will be. R.I.P low-wasited pants, we hope to never experience your resurrection.
- Sweat pants – I was going to say yoga pants but guys get weird around those, so let’s stick to sweat pants. We all have our off days when we’re just not feelin’ it, but that’s no excuse to leave the house wearing pajama pants or anything else that makes you look like a slop show. It looks just plain unhygienic (this goes for guys and girls).
- Sequins and glitter – I gotta admit, I love anything that sparkles, but I usually don’t dress accordingly. A quote from the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty comes to mind on this one: “beautiful things don’t ask for attention”, and that about sums that one up.
- Loud patterns – Just like the sequins and glitter, loud patterns are not very flattering, especially when pasted onto skin tight pants. If you want to incorporate patterns into your wardrobe, choose smaller ones, and remember don’t mix patterns.
- Last but not least, the one trend every guy seems to hate (drum roll please)…uggs. I don’t know what it is about these, but guys seem to detest uggs. Maybe it’s because they’re so chunky, or maybe it’s because the trend has been butchered, but uggs made the top of the list for almost every guy interviewed for this article.
