Worn Fashion Journal launched its 17th issue and marked the occasion with the Black Cat Ball. This was an amazing occasion for all of the followers, supporters and contributors to the magazine to get dressed up and enjoy a lovely evening of dancing and celebration.
The Toronto based magazine, Worn Fashion Journal, comes out twice a year in print. Worn feels that even though there are a ton of fashion magazines out there, something is missing. They want to fill that gap by sharing “an opinion and intelligent commentary that’s untainted by advertisers’ demands.”
Worn is a progressive magazine which covers everything from culture and subculture to personal stories pertaining to fashion. They wish to break new boundaries in art and fashion by connecting fashion scholars and artists. Worn portrays a wide variety of beauty in their magazine and are very inclusive of identification, sexuality, size, race, ability and age. Another admirable fact about Worn is that they refrain from traditional or current fashion concepts and are accepting of the true art of fashion. At the root of it all, fashion is an art form to be appreciated and Worn is portraying this message very well..
At the event, Worn Fashion Journal and their 17th issue guests gathered in a large hall which resembled a fifties dance party. The front table offered cat ears and tails for sale. People took to the dance floor and danced to many eras of music, starting off with the fifties and working through the decades, playing everything from early Beatles all the way up to the eighties Micheal Jackson, The Cure and Blondie. When they played “Twist and Shout” by the Beatles almost everyone flocked to the dance floor to get their twist on. Like Worn’s theme, it shows that the Beatles are timeless and will resonate with youth culture regardless of the era. Worn views clothing in a similar way. They don’t believe in “trends”. All forms of fashion are relevant and should be appreciated. The night was quite a lot of fun and a great way to kick off the launch of their new issue.
