Family Day Fun on a Budget

Family day is almost here. Whether you’re spending time with your loved ones or using the holiday to beat back the February blues, it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the city. Many of Toronto’s biggest attractions are getting into the family day spirit and offering deep discounts all weekend long. Take advantage of the time off with some of these family (and budget) friendly activities.

Toronto Mainstays

1. The CN Tower: When was the last time you took a trip to Toronto’s tallest tower? Revisit your childhood memories and see the city from up above. The CN Tower offers family passes (99$) for 4 so the whole family can enjoy a day at Toronto’s most recognizable landmark.

2. The Royal Ontario Museum: There’s always something new and exciting happening at the Royal Ontario Museum and Family Day weekend is no exception. This year’s programming celebrates Biodiversity, with live animals, crafts, and storytelling for the whole family. You can even meet ROM’s Aquarium keeper.  Adult: $16.50 Senior/Student: $14.50 Child: $13 (under 3: Free)

3. The Hockey Hall of Fame : Keep up the Canadian spirit by visiting the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday February 17th. Kids get in free and for one day only you can touch Sidney Crosby’s Olympic Gold Medal winning puck!  Get your picture taken with the “Lucky Loonie” from the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Is there a better way to cheer on team Canada? Adult: $17.50 Child: Free

4. AGO: The AGO is turning in to the KGO on Monday February 17th for a special family day promotion. The “Kids Gallery of Ontario” will offer giant board games, an all day dance party, family friendly films, and even family yoga sessions. It’s the perfect time to grab your kids (cousins, nieces, nephews) and introduce them to the world of art. Family Pack: $39

5. TIFF: The Bell Free weekend is upon us. TIFF has a variety of programming for all ages all weekend long including short films, button making, and sci-fi crafts. Take in a movie while you’re there!

Festivals

6. Family Fun Fest: Keep the kids entertained at the best indoor family fun event in Ontario. Ride, clowns, Lego displays and so much more with keep the young ones entertained for hours entertained for hours. Family Pack: $50

7. Family Day on Toronto’s Waterfront: Everyone can enjoy a day at Toronto’s Waterfront. This year they’re hosting Dog sports demos, arts and crafts, and an Inuit art show. Bring your travel mug and taste a variety of hot beverages from 9 local business. The best part? It’s free!

8. Arts for Children and Youth: The AFCY will be holding hula hoop weaving, dance, and winter activities on Sunday February 16th and Monday Febraury 17th. For more information visit their website.

9. Second City: Check out some of the best comedy in the city at Second City. Their Monday matinee is a kid friendly telling of Princess Polly and the World’s Smallest Ninja. If you’re looking for a more grown up adventure, check out The Best of Second City, at 8pm.

10. Bloor Hot Docs: Sing along with One Direction! The Hot Docs Cinema will be airing One Direction’s documentary “This is Us,” on Sunday and Monday. Grab your friends, ditch your family, and join in the fun with trivia and prizes. If One Direction isn’t your cup of tea, check out the Monday screening of the 80s classic, Labyrinth, and revel in all of David Bowie’s glory.
