Celebration at The Magpie - StellarizeThe return of an old friend, Stephany Pellen, inspired musical artists Stellarize, Sousa’s Lost Sound, Steven Duun and David Simard to perform a celebration show together at the Magpie. This outstanding night of music and stories was held to commemorate Pellen’s exciting six month adventure as a Media Director for Carnival Cruise Lines. While traveling, Pellen kept in close contact with friend and local artist, Stellarize (Darron Corcoran), who was more than excited to host a show in Pellen’s honour upon her return.

The evening started with a sensational performance by Stellarize, who’s breathing taking voice and intricate guitar playing moved audience members. Her unique musical style and sensational lyrics in songs such as “One More day”, “The Wild” and “Stay Or Go” created a truthful atmosphere and lots of raw energy that fans couldn’t ignore. With each new song more and more people sang along and at the end of the performance,  begged Stellarize for an encore performance.

Celebration at The Magpie - Fresh PrintFollowing Stellarize was an acoustic rock duo, Sousa’s Lost Sound, who captivated fans with catchy and heavy folk music. Throughout their performance the two artists used key pauses and build-ups to keep their audience interested. Outstanding rolls and fantastic tom work by their drummer, Brian Taylor, made listening to songs such as “Down the Boarder” and “Pretty Blue Packaging” fun and exciting.

To end the night Keswickian performers Steven Duun and David Simard teamed up to play a wide range of covers and original tunes. The duo’s fantastic stage presence and amazing energy had fans not only singing along but actually singing on the stage with the band. This fantastic use of audience participation was at an all-time high when Dunn and Simard insisted that everyone crowd around them for a huge group cover of the Lumineers “Ho Hey”. Along with great covers came several amazing original songs including “Windows Down” and “This Highway” which brought on a fun summer vibe.

Celebration at The Magpie - TorontoAs many travelers tell you, there is no place quite like home and that’s exactly how Stephany Pellen felt after her welcome home concert. With so much amazing music and so many great friends in one place it will certainly be hard for Pellen to leave the city again any time soon
