Nick Glover's Fight for the Right to play music In this day and age, it’s so easy to give up on your dreams or to let life get in the way, but for 25 year old singer, song writer Nick Glover, giving up on music isn’t an option. For Glover, like many other artists out there, writing songs and playing music helps him vent his frustrations and gives him inner peace. As he’s getting older, Glover has discovered that finding time to write songs can be next to impossible. In fact, in a short interview, Nick revealed that he is currently juggling a job, school and his musical career, all at the same time! This is definitely a huge undertaking, especially when you consider how many college and university students that don’t work and still struggle to complete all their assignments. Imagine getting up, heading to school, then punching the work clock, before heading to a show, and then catching up on last minute assignments. This routine is true dedication to the craft and for Glover, it might actually be helpful to his creative process – or at least it was for his latest song, Insomnia.

Nick Glover's Fight for the Right to play music - Fresh PrintAs the title suggests, Insomnia is written about the inability to sleep. This lack-of-sleeping sickness plagues many artists, including Glover(not that he would have time to sleep anyway). Aside from the fact that Glover has had quite a few nights of tossing and turning,  Insomnia is also interesting for other reasons. It’s loosely based on a chapter study Glover completed in school. During the study, Glover was inspired by key words (such as retroactive) and was compelled to write a song that not only described his sleeping problems, but also included facts about global sleeping issues. The end result was a song that is entirely relatable, which for Nick Glover, makes all his hard work worthwhile. Really, what artist doesn’t enjoy knowing that their work has helped others? For Glover, the push to become a great musician came to him in high school during a cabaret concert, where he performed Advertising on Police Cars by Matthew Good. Glover revealed that the crowd’s reaction during this performance brought him such a positive feeling. He knew right then and there, music needed to be a part of the rest of his life.

Glover started as the kid messing around in music class and has now been involved in the music industry for over ten years. He’s seen countless other musicians give up their art because of other aspects of their life that made it too difficult. The  fact of the matter is, life is always going to throw things in the way of what you love to do, but  it’s those who overcome these obstacles that succeed in making their passion a part of their everyday life.   Nick Glover is definitely one of those people. Glover looks at life’s challenges and asks “how can I use this to inspire my music?” not just push them away. It’s safe to say that Nick Glover will continue to put out new and inspiring music for years to come, and when he does, we will be looking forward to hearing it.
